Healthy Foods

GOAL: By 2022, the Grosse Pointes and Harper Woods will support a culture of health that increases access to healthy foods and promotes healthy eating.

Objectives

  • Encourage, promote and engage with Farmers markets in the area

  • Create monthly nutritional classes (in Farmers Markets, hospital, community partners, grocery stores). Each effort individually self-contained on a different topic such as healthy grains, avoiding sugar,  allergies, food on the go, portions, meal prep and planning,  high sodium, bad carbs, good carbs, healthy meals on a budget, avoiding fat etc.. Create and promote Community-supported agriculture, connecting the producer and consumers within the food system more closely by allowing the consumer to subscribe to the harvest of a certain farms

  • Create a tool kit for promoting family meals and conversation family topics  

  • Create pop up events with restaurants to do cooking demo pop-ups with healthy cooking and foods

  • Create materials for local Grocery stores to have health messages and tips

  • Create a Healthy restaurant award program (see what other coalitions have done)
