Spotlight on Bike Paths
Brian Rumohr is an avid cyclist, and has been leading the Grosse Pointe Pedalers for a few years now. He recently joined Healthy Grosse Pointe and Harper Woods, and is working on the Healthy Environments and Physical Activity team. One of the goals of this team is to create a community ground swell to get help create bike lanes for the area. They already have a Complete Street bike lane study that was accomplished a few years ago.
"One of the reasons I really want to see bike lanes in the Grosse Pointes is for my three kids. I want them to love the sport and lifestyle as much as I do, however, as a parent I want it to be as safe as possible for them to enjoy it. I think future generations of Grosse Pointers will enjoy the benefits of bike lanes, the sooner they are in the better," Brian explains.
He adds, "I need more health-minded community citizens to start reaching out to their community leaders and start asking the questions that lead to a discussion on bike lanes. Feasibility studies have been done, and it makes sense."
